28th February:

North Uist: A Chiffchaff was at Scotvein, Grimsay today.

Barra: The White-billed Diver and 12 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry. The Canada Goose was at Borve. A dark-bellied Brent Goose and 56 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor. The 3rd winter Glaucous Gull was at Ardveenish. A juvenile Iceland Gull and Coot were at Loch Tangasdale.

Insects: A Pine Beauty and Dark Sword-grass were caught at Langass Wood last night. A Dark Sword-grass, 3 Hebrew Characters and a Clouded Drab were trapped at Carinish. 8 Dark Sword-grass and a Diamond-back Moth were caught in South Glendale. 2 Early Grey, 8 Dark Sword-grass, 2 Small Mottled Willow and 3 Pale Brindled Beauty, amongst others were trapped at North Loch Eynort

27th February:

North Uist: A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull, pale-bellied Brent Goose and a Pink-footed Goose were at Knockintorran. 3 Pintails were on Loch Scarie.

Barra: The White-billed Diver was off Eoligarry today.

Insects: 5 Dark Sword-grass, 1 Red Sword-grass, 1 Hebrew Character, 2 Dotted Border and an Acleris hyemana were caught in South Glendale last night. 22 Belted Beauties were along the fence line by the south bay at Ardvule today.

26th February:

Lewis: 15 Snow Buntings were at Loch Ordais; also a Black-tailed Godwit there.

North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary. At least 2 Glaucous Gulls (2nd and 3rd winter) were at Rubh' Arnal today.

Benbecula: A Swallow was seen at Uachdar this morning.

Barra: The 3rd winter Glaucous Gull was at either Traigh Mhor or Ardveenish. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Craigston. The Canada Goose was at Borve. 10 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry.

Insects: An emergence of Belted Beauties was seen at Balranald this morning with at least 10 males near the coastal car park.

25th February:

24th February:

Lewis: A Little Egret is at Carishader, Loch Roag.

North Uist: 3 Pink-footed Geese were at Otternish today.

Barra: The Canada Goose was at Borve again today. A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull was at Ardveenish. 16 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry. 4 Common Redpolls were in Castlebay.

23rd February:

Lewis: 3 Iceland Gulls (a juvenile, 2nd winter and and adult) were at Goat Island, Stornoway this evening.

Benbecula: A drake Green-winged Teal and Black-tailed Godwit were at Coot Loch.

 

22nd February:

South Uist: The Little Egret was seen in Stilligarry again this morning.

 

20th February:

South Uist: A Little Egret was at Stilligarry on the edge of Loch Druidibeg.

 

19th February:

North Uist: Around 200 Snow Buntings were on the machair at Malaclate this morning. A European White-fronted Goose was at Grenitote along with the 2 hybrid Cackling x Barnacle Geese. 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Sgiobanias.

Barra: A juvenile Iceland Gull was seen in Castlebay.

 

18th February:

Small numbers of Whooper Swans appear to be heading north with 3 seen on Loch Grunevat, Leurbost, 3 on Barra and a slight increase in numbers on Uist.

South Uist: Birds heading south at Ardvule this morning included 1 Great Northern Diver, 18 Red-throated Divers, 4 Fulmars, 14 Gannets, 14 Long-tailed Ducks, 17 Eiders, 13 Razorbills, 1 Black Guillemot and 6 Kittiwakes.

Barra: The White-billed Diver was off Eoligarry again today whilst 30 Snow Buntings were on the beach there. The Canada Goose was on Borve machair.

17th February:

Lewis: A Swallow was seen in Carishader today.

North Uist: The Richardson's Cackling Goose and Canada Goose were at Balranald whilst a 2nd winter Glaucous Gull and adult Iceland Gull were along the coast there.

Benbecula: The drake Ring-necked Duck and a pair of Pintail were on Loch Fada. A drake Green-winged Teal and Black-tailed Godwit were at Coot Loch.

South Uist: A Little Egret was at Stilligarry.

Barra: The Canada Goose was at Borve. A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull was at Ardveenish. The Coot was on Loch Tangasdale and 4 Common Redpolls were in Castlebay.

 

16th February:

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose was at Knockintorran.

South Uist: 2 Little Egrets were at Stilligarry. 4 Scaup were on Loch Bee. A Pink-footed Goose was at Garrynamonie.

Barra: The Canada Goose was at Borve. 4 Common Redpolls were in Castlebay.

 

15th February:

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Lag Gorm, Baleshare this morning.

South Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Garrynamonie. 104 Curlews were at Loch Hallan.

Barra: The juvenile Iceland Gull and 3rd winter Glaucous Gull were at Traigh Mhor.

 

14th February:

North Uist: The Richardson's Cackling Goose and Canada Goose were at Balranald again today.

South Uist: 3 Great Northern Divers, 21 Red-throated Divers, 12 Gannets, 2 Pale-bellied Brents, 18 Eider, 45 Long-tailed Ducks and 7 Razorbills flew south at Ardvule this morning.

13th February:

Lewis: An adult Iceland Gull and juvenile Glaucous Gull were in Stornoway Harbour.

North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was at Loch Sandary.

 

12th February:

Lewis: An adult Glaucous Gull and 2 Iceland Gulls were reported from Tiumpan Head.

North Uist: The Richardson's Cackling Goose and Canada Goose were at Balranald again today.

South Uist: Southerly movement at Ardvule this morning included 19 Red-throated Divers, 33 Gannets, 15 Fulmars, 29 Long-tailed Duck, 6 Eiders, 3 Kittiwakes, 49 Razorbills and 3 Black Guillemots this morning.

 

11th February:

Lewis: 4 Shoveler were at Steinish and a Pink-footed Goose was at Goathill Farm.

South Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Kilpheder Point.

10th February:

Harris: 4 Surf Scoters (3 drakes and a female) and 140 Common Scoters were in the Sound of Taransay.

Benbecula: The female / immature Velvet Scoter was off Balivanich along with 8 Slavonian Grebes. The drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Fada. The drake Scaup, pair of Pintail and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were on Coot Loch.

Barra: A juvenile Iceland Gull was in Castlebay. The White-billed Diver was off Eoligarry jetty and 37 Snow Buntings were on the shore there. An adult Glaucous Gull was on the east side of Vatersay. The Canada Goose was with around 100 Barnacle Geese at Borve.

 

9th February:

South Uist: Birds south at Ardvule this morning included 1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, 4 Gannets (+32 north), 13 Eider, 6 Long-tailed Ducks, 23 Kittiwakes (+11 north), 2 Black Guillemots, 1 Razorbill and 1 Guillemot.

8th February:

Barra: The 3rd winter Glaucous Gull and 11 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor.

7th February:

North Uist: A Jack Snipe was seen on Lag Gorm and 3 Snow Buntings were on the shore at Baleshare today.

 

6th February:

Lewis: 2 Iceland Gulls were at Tiumpan Head.

North Uist: An Iceland Gull, 2 Glaucous Gulls and 66 Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal this morning.

 

4th February:

North Uist: The Richardson's Cackling Goose and Canada Goose were at Balranald today. 4 Pintail were on Loch nam Feithean.

Benbecula: The drake Ring-necked Duck and drake Scaup are on Coot Loch. 2 Black-tailed Godwits were at Borve Point.

South Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal is still at the north end of Loch Bee.

Barra: The White-billed Diver was off Ardhmore ferry terminal. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Allasdale. A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull and 9 Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor.

Marine Sightings: A Humpback Whale was photographed off Tiumpan Head today.

3rd February:

Lewis: A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull and 2nd winter Iceland Gull were at Tiumpan Head this morning. A Turtle Dove has been visiting a Stornoway garden for the last 3 days. An adult Iceland Gull was seen from Cross Street, Stornoway in the afternoon.

Benbecula: The drake Ring-necked Duck, a drake Scaup and a pair of Pintail were on Coot Loch.

South Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal is at the north end of Loch Bee again this morning. A Pink-footed Goose was at Balgarva.

Barra: A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull was at Traigh Mhor.

2nd February:

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose was at Borve, Berneray.

South Uist: A Jack Snipe was at Ardvule.

Barra: 57 Black-throated Divers were off the east side of Vatersay today. The White-billed Diver was seen off Ardmhor along with 23 Slavonian Grebes. A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull and 33 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry.

1st February:

North Uist: 2 Glaucous Gulls, 2 Iceland Gulls and 71 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal.

Benbecula: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was on the shore in Balivanich this morning. The drake Ring-necked Duck and a pair of Pintail were on Coot Loch.

South Uist: A Little Egret was in a drainage ditch on the Range. 2 Scaup were on Loch Bee. A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull was at Ardvule.

Barra: 30 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Traigh Mhor and an immature Glaucous Gull drifted over heading east.
