Nb: The neck-collared White-fronted Goose seen by Paul Boyer at Loch Mor on 23rd March was previously ringed at Loch Ken, Dumfries and Galloway in November 2016 and then spent the winter of 2018/19 in Northern Ireland.

31st March:

North Uist: 37 Whooper Swans and 65 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north over Scotvein, Grimsay this morning. A Chiffchaff was seen in Sollas. 92 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north over Carinish in the morning. The drake American Wigeon was at Loch an Sticir. A Wheatear and 70 Redwings were at Clachan Sands.

Benbecula: A drake Scaup and 7 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch.

South Uist: Birds flying north this morning at Ardvule included 122 Whooper Swans, 31 Greylag Geese, 9 Greenland White-fronted Geese, 330 Barnacle Geese and 1 Pale-bellied Brent. 2 Wheatears and a Goldcrest were seen in South Glendale.

Barra: Around 40 Wheatears were seen with most on Vatersay. The Canada Goose was still at Borve. The Great Tit was at Creachan. A male Blackcap was in Northbay. A House Martin was around Castlebay. 30 Whooper Swans flew north-west off Brevig early morning.

30th March:

North Uist: 22 Greenland White-fronted Geese were at Balranald; 64 were at Clachan Farm; 29 were at Port nan Long and 38 were on Baleshare. 87 Whooper Swans were at Loch Scolpaig. A Wheatear was on Baleshare. 300+ Redwings were at Malaclate.

Benbecula: 137 Greenland White-fronted Geese were opposite the golf course (including a neck-collared bird); also a Pink-footed Goose with these.

South Uist: 183 Whooper Swans dropped in at Loch Bornish before continuing north. 20 Whooper Swans were on the sea off Ludag. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Ardvule. A male Blackcap was at Carnan in the evening. 196 Whooper Swans at Frobost in the afternoon were joined by a further 132 late afternoon. 400+ Redwings were in Askernish.

Barra: Around 1,500 Redwings were scattered around the island. 4 Chiffchaffs were at Glen and another was at Ardmhor. The Canada Goose was still at Borve. 80 Whooper Swans were on Loch Tangasdale. 2 House Martins were at Brevig in the afternoon. A Great Tit was at Creachan.

29th March:

North Uist: A drake American Wigeon is on Loch an Sticir. 58 Greenland White-fronted Geese were at Clachan Farm. 32 Greenland White-fronted Geese landed at Clachan Farm. 122 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north over Baleshare at 15:10. 350 Redwings were in Malaclate this morning. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was seen at Balranald and 8 Black-tailed Godwits flew west there. 228 Greenland White-fronted Geese were at Loch nam Feithean along with 42 Whooper Swans and a pair of Pintail.

South Uist: Birds moving south at Ardvule were 35 Gannets, 4 Red-throated Divers, 2 Barnacle Geese, 4 Long-tailed Duck, 8 Kittiwakes, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 73 Razorbills. Birds flying north included 77 Whooper Swans and 11 Gannets. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was also present. 500 Redwings were in Askernish in the afternoon. 427 Whooper Swans were around Frobost. 48 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north at Frobost in the morning.

28th March:

Lewis: 30 Whooper Swans were on Loch Tiumpan and 7 were on Loch an Dun (Point).

North Uist: 19 White-fronted Geese flew south over Scotvein, Grimsay around midday. 59 Brent Geese and an adult Iceland Gull were at Rubh' Arnal. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Balemore. 46 Whooper Swans were on Loch na Feithean.

South Uist: The Great Tit is still in South Glendale. 2 adult Greenland White-fronted Geese were on the machair at Kilpheder this morning whilst 243 Whooper Swans flew north there between 08:58 and 09:34.

Barra: The Canada Goose was still at Borve and a juvenile Iceland Gull was nearby.

 

27th March:

Lewis: 60 White-fronted Geese rested on the machair at Lionel this morning. 33 Whooper Swans were on Loch Stiapabhat. An Osprey was reported from Gallan Head today.

North Uist: 2 Wheatears were at Aird an Runair where 2 Great Skuas flew north. 29 Whooper Swans flew north at Balranald and 51 Greenland White-fronted Geese were feeding by Loch nam Feithan.

South Uist: The Great Tit was seen in South Glendale again today and 44 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north there at 16:09; also a Wheatear in the valley there.

 

26th March:

Lewis: 3 Greenland White-fronted Geese were seen at Loch Stiapabhat. A 2nd winter Iceland Gull and Great Skua were seen at Tiumpan Head.

North Uist: An Iceland Gull and Glaucous Gull were at Rubh' Arnal. 49 Greenland White-fronted Geese were at Balemore. 49 Whooper Swans were at Bayhead and 34 were seen heading north-west over Clachan-na-Luib in the morning. A Wheatear was seen at Clachan Sands.

South Uist: 4 Whooper Swans and 5 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north at Ardvule this morning whilst a Common Scoter flew south. 7 Greenland White-fronted Geese are at Kilpheder. 183 Greenland White-fronted Geese (in 2 flocks) and 89 Whooper Swans (in 2 flocks) flew north at Askernish today.

Barra: The Canada Goose was still at Borve.

25th March:

North Uist: The Green-winged Teal was at Loch Sandary. 2 Glaucous Gulls were at Rubh' Arnal.

Benbecula: 4 Black-tailed Godwits and a pair of Pintail were on Coot Loch.

South Uist: 314 Whooper Swans and 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew north at Ardvule this morning. 90 Goldfinch were at Kilpheder. The Great Tit is still in South Glendale. 102 Whooper Swans were on Loch Bornish. 120 Whooper Swans flew north over Askernish this afternoon.

Barra: 23 Pink-footed Geese flew north at Brevig early morning and a Great Skua was off Ardmhor.

24th March:

South Uist: A Great Tit is still in South Glendale today.

 

23rd March:

Lewis: A Great Tit was at Barvas.

North Uist: 25 Pink-footed Geese flew north at Balranald around midday. 13 Pintail were at Loch Paible. A flock of at least 110 Whooper Swans flew north over Grimsay this evening.

Benbecula: 19 Greenland White-fronted Geese were at Loch Mor (including a neck-collared bird).

South Uist: 800 Whooper Swans flew north over the island during this morning. A Great Tit is still in South Glendale. A Black-tailed Godwit and at least 23 Scaup were on Loch Bee.

22nd March:

Benbecula: 6 Pink-footed Geese landed in a field north of Loch Mor this afternoon.

South Uist: A Great Tit was in South Glendale today. 17 Whooper Swans flew north at Smerclate. Birds south at Ardvule this morning were 1 Great Northern Diver, 7 Red-throated Divers, 130 Gannets, 48 Fulmars, 1 Manx Shearwater, 3 Black Guillemots, 664 Razorbills, 62 Auks sp., 1 Pale-bellied Brent, 29 Long-tailed Ducks, 7 Eider and 38 Kittiwakes.

 

21st March:

North Uist: 3 Fieldfares were in Carinish today. An adult Glaucous Gull and 3 winter Iceland Gull were at Rubh' Arnal today; also 64 Brent Geese there.

Benbecula: 3 Black-tailed Godwits were on Coot Loch and 4 were at Loch Mor.

South Uist: A Great Tit was in South Glendale today. 60 Whooper Swans (in 4 flocks) flew north at Askernish today; also 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese briefly.

20th March:

North Uist: A Tree Sparrow was in Carinish this morning.

Insects: 69 Hebrew Character, 1 Early Grey and an Acleris hyemana were caught in South Glendale. 2 male Belted Beauties were on posts on Daliburgh machair.

19th March:

North Uist: The Cackling Goose and Canada Goose were at Balranald; also a Pink-footed Goose and Pale-bellied Brent Goose were in the area.

South Uist: 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Ormiclate.

 

18th March:

North Uist: A Fieldfare was in Carinish this morning. A 3rd winter Iceland Gull and adult Glaucous Glaucous Gull were at Rubh' Arnal. The Cackling Goose and Canada Goose were at Balranald.

South Uist: A Great Tit was in South Glendale today. Several Fieldfare were seen in Askernish with a couple of flocks (17 and 25) of Whooper Swans heading north there in the afternoon. The Black Redstart is still on the Range.

Insects: A male Belted Beauty was seen at Balranald this afternoon.

17th March:

Lewis: An adult and 3rd winter Iceland Gull were reported from Tiumpan Head.

Barra: The Canada Goose is still with around 90 Barnacle Geese at Borve today. A Juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Traigh Mhor.

 

16th March:

North Uist: An adult Glaucous Gull was at Grenitote. A Greenland White-fronted Goose and 2 Pink-footed Geese were nearby at Sgiobanais. Around 50 Snow Buntings were on the machair at Sollas. 70 Goldfinch were at the north end of the Committee Road. The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary. An adult Iceland Gull, adult Glaucous Gull and 64 Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal this morning.

 

15th March:

South Uist: The male Black Redstart was seen on the Range again this morning. A Glaucous Gull was seen at Ormiclate.

 

14th March:

South Uist: A male Black Redstart was seen on the Range today.

12th March:

North Uist: An adult Iceland Gull was at Balranald.

South Uist: Southerly movement at Ardvule this morning included 3 Eiders, 42 Gannets, 7 Red-throated Divers, 3 Fulmars, 5 Kittiwakes, 49 Razorbills 2 Black Guillemots and 2 Auks sp.

Barra: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Craigston.

 

11th March:

South Uist: 7 Greenland White-fronted Geese and 78 Goldfinch were on Kilpheder machair.

 

10th March:

Barra: A Glaucous Gull flew north off Brevig.

 

9th March:

North Uist: An Iceland Gull was seen at Balranald.

 

8th March:

North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary.

Barra: The Canada Goose was seen amongst the Barnacle Geese at Borve again today.

 

7th March:

Lewis: A 2nd cal yr Iceland Gull was in Stornoway Harbour.

 

6th March:

Lewis: An immature Iceland Gull was in Stornoway Harbour this morning. 40 - 50 Redwings were seen flying west in Breasclete this afternoon. 3 Snow Buntings were seen in Lionel.

Harris: At least 95 Common Scoters were off Luskentyre this afternoon.

South Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull flew west over Daliburgh beach mid-morning and it or another was on Boisdale beach an hour later.

5th March:

North Uist: At least 14 Snow Buntings and a Pink-footed Goose were at Borve, Berneray today. 2 Iceland Gulls and 23 Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal.

Benbecula: 7 Black-tailed Godwits were on Coot Loch and a pair of Pintail were at Loch Fada.

 

4th March:

Lewis: A Whimbrel was at the west end of Arnol Bay.

Harris: 40 Common Scoters were in the Sound of Taransay.

Barra: The White-billed Diver was off Ardmhor ferry terminal this afternoon. 8 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry. A dark-bellied Brent Goose was with 53 pale-bellied Brents at Traigh Mhor.

 

3rd March:

Harris: 2 Goosanders were reported from Amhuinnsuidhe today.

North Uist: A Glaucous Gull was seen at Balranald.

South Uist: Birds south today at Ardvule were 1 Great Northern Diver, 5 Red-throated Divers, 48 Gannets (13 N), 34 Fulmar, 8 Long-tailed Duck, 68 Eider, 1 Shoveler (amongst 4 Eider), 122 Kittiwakes, 9 Auk sp, 53 Razorbill and 7 Black Guillemot.
