31st May:

North Uist: 200+ Long-tailed Skuas and 37 Pomarine Skuas flew north at Aird an Runair today.

South Uist: 5 Great Northern Divers, a Leach’s Petrel, 8 Pomarine Skuas, an Arctic Skua and 2 Great Skuas flew north at Ardvule this morning.

30th May:

Lewis: The Turtle Dove was in Garrabost again today.

North Uist: An Iceland Gull was by the causeway at Grimsay. The drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: An Iceland Gull was at Loch Grogarry. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Garrynamonie.

Insects: 2 Small Heath butterflies and a Small Tortoiseshell were seen on Eriskay today.

29th May:

Lewis: A Turtle Dove was in Garrabost on 26th May.

Uist: An Iceland Gull was at Balranald today.

South Uist: An immature Glaucous Gull and immature Iceland Gull were at Stoneybridge along with 3 Whimbrel.

28th May:

Lewis: The 1st summer Mediterranean Gull was still at Loch Branahuie along with 5 Long-tailed Ducks. 2 Iceland Gulls (a juvenile and 2nd yr) were around Ness and a Pectoral Sandpiper flew in at Loch Stiapabhat just after mid-day. A Long-tailed Skua was seen from the Stornoway -  Ullapool ferry today shortly after leaving Stornoway.

North Uist: 325 Long-tailed Skuas and 17 Pomarine Skuas flew north at Aird an Runair today; also a juvenile Iceland Gull on the shore at Balranald.

27th May:

Lewis: An immature Iceland Gull was on the machair by Loch Stiapabhat this afternoon and 5 more were near the Butt. A 1st summer Meditarranean Gull a pair of Scaup and 3 Long-tailed Ducks were at Loch Branahuie today.

North Uist: The drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary. An immature Iceland Gull was seen over Bayhead and another was at Grenitote. 10 Long-tailed Skuas flew north at Aird an Runair between 06:20 - 07:00.

South Uist: A pair of Whooper Swans with 2 small cygnets were on Mid Loch Ollay today.

26th May:

North Uist: An adult Iceland Gull was at Balemore this afternoon. A Carrion Crow was along the Loch Portain road. 4 Black-tailed Godwits were at Borve on Berneray. 25 Pomarine Skuas and a single Long-tailed Skua were seen off Aird an Runair today.

Benbecula: At least 4 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Fada.

South Uist: A Chiffchaff was singing in Askernish.

25th May:

Lewis: A juvenile and 2nd yr Iceland Gull were at the Butt along with 7 Whimbrel. 4 Pink-footed Geese were around Ness and 10 Black-tailed Godwits were at Fivepenny this morning.

North Uist: 6 Pomarine Skuas flew north past Aird an Runair early this morning. The drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary. An Iceland Gull was at Loch Paible.

Benbecula: The male Ruff was still at Loch Fada.

South Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Peninerine. 3 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Ardvule. A Brent Goose was on the loch by Hebridean Jewellery. A Long-tailed Skua flew overhead at Ardivachar around 13:30 today and a juvenile Iceland Gull was seen on the rocks there.

24th May:

North Uist: 317 Long-tailed Skuas and 429 Pomarine Skuas flew north past Aird an Runair by 19:00 today. The drake Scaup is still on Coot Loch.

Benbecula: A Curlew Sandpiper flew west across Loch Mor late afternoon and the male Ruff was displaying to 9 Black-tailed Godwits at Loch Fada.

South Uist: 5 Pomarine Skuas, 8 Long-tailed Skuas and 3 Arctic Skuas flew north at Ardvule between 06:05 - 09:50.

23rd May:

South Uist: 100+ Sand Martins, 20+ Swallows and 2 House Martins were feeding over the loch behind the Daliburgh co-op this afternoon.

Insects: A Herald moth was trapped in South Glendale last night.

22nd May:

Lewis: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and 9 Whimbrel were at the Butt. A 1st year Little Gull was at Loch Stiapabhat. 4 Pink-footed Gees, a Curlew Sandpiper and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were on the machair at Ness.

North Uist: 43 Long-tailed Skuas and 30 Pomarine Skuas flew north past Aird an Runair today. 2 Long-tailed Skuas were seen over the dunes at Clachan heading west-north-west just after mid-day today. A White-billed Diver was seen flying north at Rubh' Arnal early morning.

South Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull was in roadside fields by Loch an't-Saile this morning. Sea-watching from Ardvule (0700 – 1005) produced  5 Long-tailed Skuas, 4 Arctic Skuas, 7 Great Northern Divers, 6 Red-throated Divers, 118 Razorbills and 3 Whimbrel heading north.

21st May:

North Uist: A 2nd summer Iceland Gull and juvenile Glaucous Gull were at Hosta this morning. A 2nd summer Iceland Gull was at Balranald and another 2nd summer Iceland Gull was at Grenitote. 90 Pomarine Skuas and 77 Long-tailed Skuas past Aird an Runair during the day.

South Uist: The Rose-coloured Starling is still at Ardivachar around the cemetery and a Little Egret was nearby. 4 Pink-footed Geese were at Balgarva today.

20th May:

North Uist: 35 Long-tailed Skuas and 304 Pomarine Skuas flew north at Aird an Runair today.

South Uist: The Rose-coloured Starling was still in fields east of the cemetery at Ardivachar today. The drake Goosander is still at North Loch Eynort and a Whitethroat was seen there.

19th May:

North Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull and 54 Pomarine Skuas were seen at Aird an Runair today.

Benbecula: The male Ruff and 2 Black-tailed Godwits are still at Loch Mor.

South Uist: A Rose-coloured Starling was at Ardivachar this afternoon before flying off over the cemetery. It was later seen in the field just past of the cemetery. A dark-bellied Brent Goose was at Balgarva this evening. Ardvule this morning produced 15 Pomarine Skuas, 3 Arctic Skuas, 6 Great Northern Divers and 5 Red-throated Divers flying north; also 2 Pale-bellied Brents present.

18th May:

Lewis: A Red-necked Phalarope was seen at Loch na Muilne, Arnol today.

North Uist: A Magpie was seen at Aird an Runair this morning. A Redwing was by Loch Sandary. A juvenile Iceland Gull was on the machair at Grenitote. A Pomarine Skua flew north at Aird an Runair in the evening.

Benbecula: A Black Redstart was in a garden in Muir of Aird yesterday but no sign today. A male Ruff was seen displaying to 2 Black-tailed Godwits at Loch Mor.

South Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper was on the Range at West Gerinish. An Iceland Gull was in fields near the Howmore River.

17th May:

Lewis: 5 Scaup and 15 Long-tailed Ducks were on Loch Branahuie.

North Uist: A Leach's Petrel was seen off Aird an Runair this morning along with 194 Pomarine Skuas and 236 Long-tailed Skuas; a juvenile Glaucous Gull and 2 Iceland Gulls were present on the shore.

South Uist: 3 Pink-footed Geese and 54 Shelduck were at Balgarva. The Little Egret was at the north end of Loch Bee again this afternoon. 14 Pomarine Skuas flew north at Ardvule this morning. 2 Spotted Flycatchers were at North Loch Eynort today.

16th May:

Lewis: 62 Pomarine Skuas and 30 Long-tailed Skuas flew north past Mangersta between 06:00 - 11:00. A 2nd yr Iceland Gull was at the Butt.

North Uist: 847 Long-tailed Skuas and 911 Pomarine Skuas flew north off Aird an Runair (until 19:25). Also an immature Glaucous Gull and juvenile Iceland Gull were seen at Balranald. The drake Scaup was on Loch Sandary. A Long-tailed Skua was seen from the Uig - Lochmaddy ferry this afternoon. 2 House Martins were seen in Bayhead this afternoon.

Benbecula: 7 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Fada and around 10 Pomarine Skuas were heading north off Stinky Bay around 09:45.

South Uist: The Little Egret was at the north end of Loch Bee this afternoon. 28 Long-tailed Skuas, 136 Pomarine Skua, 13 Arctic Skuas and 3 Great Skuas flew north past Ardvule today; also a 1st summer Glaucous Gull in the north bay there.

Marine Sightings: A Minke Whale was seen from the Uig - Lochmaddy ferry this afternoon (close to Skye).

15th May:

Lewis: A Spotted Flycatcher was in Port of Ness and a 1st winter Little Gull was at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: A Carrion Crow and Black-tailed Godwit were on Borve machair, Berneray. 437 Long-tailed Skuas and 149 Pomarine Skuas north past Aird an Runair between 19:00 - 21:00.

Benbecula: 7 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Fada.

South Uist: A male Ring Ouzel was in South Glendale this evening. 2 House Martins were at Ludag and 3 were at Daliburgh. 80 Long-tailed Skuas (flocks of 50 and 30) were reported heading north off Ardvule this evening once the rain had cleared.

Marine Sightings: 2 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off Ardvule this morning.

14th May:

Benbecula: 6 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch and 2 were at Loch Mor. A Common Redpoll was at Torlum.

South Uist: A Subalpine Warbler was seen at the tip of Rubha Ardvule early this morning; also a Chiffchaff there. 2 House Martins were at Ludag. A Spotted Flycatcher was at North Loch Eynort. A Spotted Flycatcher was at Howbeg. 2 or 3 Spotted Flycatchers were at Druidibeg Plantation and a Swift was seen nearby in the morning. A Spotted Flycatcher and Black-tailed Godwit were at Ardivachar in the morning. A Little Egret was on Loch an' t-Saile. A Spotted Flycatcher was also at Ardkenneth. 4 Dotterel were also reported from Askernish machair. An Osprey was seen at Loch Skipport this evening.

13th May:

Lewis: An adult Long-tailed Skua was hanging around the cliff top to the west of the Butt until around 14:50 this afternoon. Also a juvenile Glaucous Gull and juvenile Iceland Gull were at the Butt whilst a 1st winter Little Gull was at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: A Wryneck was reported from Malaclate early this morning but not subsequently. A Slavonian Grebe and drake Scaup were on Loch Sandary.

South Uist: A female Long-tailed Duck was off Peninerine.

Barra: A Tree Pipit and 2 Wood Pigeons were at Ardmhor. 2 Siskins were in North Bay. 2 Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Sedge Warbler, Blackcap and a Whitethroat were at Breivig. 2 Common Redpolls were at Nasg. 24 Long-tailed Ducks were just past the Barra Beach Hotel.

12th May:

Lewis: Seawatching from Mangersta (16:00 - 21:00) produced 198 Pomarine Skuas and 10 Arctic Skuas.

North Uist: 1,307 Long-tailed Skuas and 353 Pomarine Skuas flew north past Aird an Runair between 07:00 - 20:30. Also a Tree Pipit on the headland this morning and a juvenile Iceland Gull along the shore. A Common Scoter was off Aird an Runair in the afternoon and a hybrid Glaucous x Herring Gull was on the machair nearby. A drake Scaup was on Loch Sandary. 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and an immature Glaucous Gull were near Rubh' Arnal whilst 34+ Pomarine Skuas landed on the sea between there and Kirkibost Island. 27 of these continued inland towards Bayhead around 16:00. 40+ Long-tailed Skuas came along the shore to the south of Rubh' Arnal before continuing around the headland. 3 pale-bellied Brent Geese flew north at Balemore with Greylags. 57 Long-tailed Skuas flew north over the Committee Road at 14:30. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Sollas.

South Uist: A seawatch from Ardvule (0540 – 1050) produced a southerly passage of 606 Gannets, 112 Manx Shearwaters, 417 Fulmars, 363 Kittiwakes, 353 Razorbills, 9 Guillemots, 5 Black Guillemots, 6 Great Northern Divers, a Black-throated Diver and 3 Red-throated Divers. Also a northerly passage of 6 Whimbrel, 5 Arctic Skuas, a Long-tailed Skua, 4 Pomarine Skuas and 2 Great Skuas.

11th May:

Lewis: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at the Butt and the male Lapland Bunting by Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: Over 762 Long-tailed Skuas and 105 Pomarine Skuas passed Aird an Runair this afternoon between 12:00 - 20:30. The Slavonian Grebe was still on Loch Sandary today.

Benbecula: A Dotterel was seen by the road to Peter's Port today.

South Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Ardivachar this morning. An Osprey was seen at Loch Druidibeg again today.

10th May:

Lewis: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls were at the Butt and the Magpie was seen again.

North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary today along with a Scaup and a Slavonian Grebe.

Benbecula: A Greenland White-fronted Goose was at Loch Mor.

South Uist: 2 Dotterel are still on the Range and a Lapland Bunting was at Ardivachar. An Osprey flew north at Loch Druidibeg today

Lewis: 2 Black Terns were seen off Tiumpan Head early this morning. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was in Stornoway Harbour. A Cuckoo was at Garrabost.

North Uist: A Redwing was in Knockintorran this morning. A Slavonian Grebe was on Loch Sandary today.

Benbecula: A Greenland White-fronted Goose was on Loch Mor.

South Uist: 2 Dotterel were on the Range at West Gerinish this afternoon. A Pomarine Skua was seen from the Oban - Lochboisdale ferry. A drake Goosander is at North Loch Eynort. A]Corn Bunting was at Bornish. Cuckoo's are more widespread now with birds reported from Loch Eynort and Lochboisdale.

Marine Sightings: A Minke Whale was seen on the Oban - Lochboisdale crossing today.

8th May:

Lewis: A male Black Redstart was outside the Loch Croistean cafe near to Uig today. A Magpie was seen behind Seacroft B&B in Aird Uig this morning. A male Lapland Bunting was nemar Loch Stiapabhat and 2 Iceland Gulls and a 2nd winter Kumlien's Gull were on the loch.

North Uist: 3 Grey Phalaropes and a Pomarine Skua were reported from the Uig - Lochmaddy ferry this evening.

Benbecula: A Garganey was on Loch Fada today.

South Uist: A male Ruff and 10 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch an' t-Saile this morning. A male Ruff was on the Range at West Gerinish. A male Whitethroat was feeding on the seaweed along the tide line at Ardivachar this morning. A Wood Warbler was at North Loch Eynort. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Stoneybridge.

Insects: The micro moth Philedonides lunana was caught at Loch Skipport today and is only the second to be recorded in the Outer Hebrides.

7th May:

Lewis: 85 Pomarine Skuas, 8 Arctic Skuas, 5 Great Skuas and 1,100 Kittiwakes past Mangersta between 06:45 - 14:45; also a Snow Bunting on the headland. 3 juvenile Iceland Gulls and a juvenile Glaucous Gull are in Stornoway Harbour.

Harris: 3Pomarine Skuas flew north past Rubha Huisinis between 10:10 - 11:40.

North Uist: 71 Pomarine Skuas and 2 Long-tailed Skuas flew north off Aird an Runair between 07:20 - 11:00; also a juvenile Iceland Gull and juvenile Glaucous Gull there.

South Uist: 148 Fulmars, 277 Gannets, 2 Common Scoter, a Long-tailed Duck, 99Razorbills, a Puffin, 110 Kittiwakes, 4 Great Skuas and 7 Arctic Skuas flew north off Ardvule this morning. Also a juvenile Iceland Gull and female Scaup were present. A Common Redpoll and Siskin were in South Glendale. An adult Little Gull and 2nd winter Glaucous Gull were at Ardivachar today. A Goosander was at the west end of Loch Eynort today.

6th May:

North Uist: 14 Pomarine Skuas north past Aird an Runair (14:30 - 15:50); also a juvenile Iceland Gull and juvenile Glaucous Gull on the beach. A drake Pochard was on Loch Sandary.

South Uist: 10 Whimbrel were at Ardvule whilst 2 Great Skuas, 2 Arctic Skuas and a male Common Scoter flew north. A female Scaup was on Loch Ardvule.

5th May:

Lewis: 2 Dotterel were at the Butt this morning before flying down towards Eoropie where there was a Curlew Sandpiper and Ruff. A Fieldfare was also at the Butt lighthouse.

South Uist: A Common Redpoll is in South Glendale. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Ardvule. A pair of Pintail were at West Gerinish. 3 Common Redpolls were in Bornish first thing today.

Insects: 148 Northern Eggar caterpillars were counted at North Loch Eynort and 2 Common Heath seen.

4th May:

Lewis: The Magpie is still in Ness and last seen flying towards Eoropie. A 2nd winter Kumlien's Gull was on Loch Stiapabhat this afternoon. A pair of Scaup are on Loch Branahuie.

North Uist: 3 Dotterel were on Baleshare this evening although very flighty. Also a dark-bellied Brent Goose with around 50 Pink-footed Geese that flew off north-westwards and at least 19 Black-tailed Godwits. 5 Pomarine Skuas were seen off Aird an Runair.

South Uist: An Arctic Skua and 2 Great Skuas flew north at Ardvule this morning; also 11 Whimbrel there.

3rd May:

Lewis: A Hawfinch was in the garden of the now closed Eoropie tearoom. A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull was at the Butt.

North Uist: A Redwing and Wood Pigeon were in Knockintorran. An immature Glaucous Gull was on the beach near Rubh' Arnal.

Benbecula: 20 Swallows were feeding over Coot Loch in the rain today.

South Uist: A Sedge Warbler was in Bornish today and a juvenile Iceland Gull was at Ardvule.

2nd May:

St. Kilda: A Scops Owl was found dead on the island yesterday.

Lewis: The Magpie was near St. Moluag's Church in Eoropie today. A Snow Bunting was seen in Back today. A drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Stiapabhat this afternoon and a juvenile Glaucous Gull was nearby. 150 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west over the Butt and both a 2nd winter Iceland Gull and 2nd winter Glaucous Gull were present.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls and a juvenile Iceland Gull were at Balranald today along with 9 Swallows.

South Uist: A Redwing is still in Loch Carnan.

1st May:

Lewis: A Magpie was seen at the Butt of Lewis this morning before heading back to Eoropie. This is the first record for the Outer Hebrides. Also 2 flocks of Pink-footed Geese totalling 1,250 birds flew over heading north-west.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and 2 juvenile Glaucous Gull were at Balranald today.

South Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Peninerine and another was at Howmore. A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull, 9 Black-tailed Godwits and 15 Whimbrel were at Ardivachar; also 4 Whimbrel flew over heading north. At least 22 Whimbrel were on the Range.

Insects: A rather tatty Peacock butterfly and a Belted Beauty were at Borve Point, Benbecula this afternoon.
